Instafill Alternative: Fill PDFs and Web Forms in Chrome

Instafill.ai is a dedicated AI form-filling platform. You upload a PDF or Word form, add the source documents or notes, and its AI fills the fields, including forms that have no fillable fields at all. Around that it has batch filling from spreadsheets, e-signatures, shared workspaces and a done-for-you service that sets up and runs whole document packets. For a team that fills the same packets every day, it is built for exactly that job.

It is also priced and shaped for that job, which is usually why people look around. There is no free plan beyond a limited demo, the filling happens in Instafill's own web app, and its browser extension only works on PDFs. If half of your forms are web portals, or you fill a few dozen forms a month rather than hundreds, you pay for a platform you use a corner of.

We build FillWise, a Chrome extension that fills web forms and PDFs from pasted notes or a document photo, so read this as a vendor comparison. Everything about Instafill below is from its website as of October 2026.

How Instafill fills a form

  1. Upload the form to the Instafill.ai web app: a PDF or a Word file. A form without fields is converted to a fillable one first.
  2. Add the data: source files (PDF, Word, Excel, CSV, images) or typed notes. A spreadsheet fills one copy of the form per row.
  3. Review the result in the built-in editor, sign it if needed and download it.

The Chrome and Edge extensions are a shortcut into the same web app. In Instafill's words, the icon "becomes active only when you're viewing a PDF file online", and a click sends you to Instafill.ai with the form loaded. Nothing on Instafill's site covers filling forms on ordinary web pages.

Where FillWise works differently

Web forms, not only PDFs. A lot of form work happens on web pages: visa portals, government sites, CRMs, carrier and supplier portals. FillWise is a side panel in Chrome. You paste what you know in any shape, open the form and press Fill form, and the values go into the page's own fields, dropdowns and checkboxes included. There is no separate app to upload the form to.

PDFs in the tab you already have. Open the PDF in Chrome and the same panel fills it. A fillable PDF is filled inside your browser: our server gets the list of its fields and your data, never the file, and the finished PDF downloads under its original name. Flat PDFs without fields work too: FillWise places the values on the lines and opens an editor where you can move or fix any of them before downloading.

Priced per fill, with a free plan. A web form costs one fill. A PDF costs one fill per started 20 pages, so a 12-page I-130 is one fill. The free plan starts with 20 fills and then tops back up to 5 a week, downloads included, no card. Paid plans are Individual at $15 for 100 fills a month, Professional at $65 for 500 and Agency at $299 for 3,000.

The API is on every plan. The PDF form API and the MCP server spend fills from the same balance as the extension, free plan included.

Six USCIS forms mapped field by field. The G-28, I-130, I-485, I-765, I-864 and N-400 fill from ready maps of every field, Yes/No pairs and split digit boxes included. The USCIS guide has the details.

What the same month costs

For forms of up to 20 pages, where one Instafill document and one FillWise fill cover the same form, list prices compare like this:

Forms a month Instafill Self-service FillWise
40 $99 (50 documents), $79 billed annually $15 (Individual, 100 fills)
200 $449 (250 documents), $359 billed annually $65 (Professional, 500 fills)
500 $899 (500 documents), $719 billed annually $65 (Professional, 500 fills)

That is not the whole story. Instafill's price also pays for batch filling, Word forms, signatures and team features that FillWise does not have. If you need those, compare on them rather than per form. If you fill forms one at a time from notes and documents, the gap is real.

Try it on a real form

The demo below is the one from our home page. Press Fill form in the side panel and watch a USCIS G-28 fill from a few lines of attorney notes, then click any field to check or change it. The other cards show a longer PDF and an ordinary web form.

Which one, decided

You fill the same packets every day, often in batches. Credentialing files, loan packages, the same ten forms for every case, with signatures and a team working in one place, or a HIPAA BAA you must have. Instafill, and its done-for-you service if you would rather not set anything up.

Your forms are a mix of web portals and PDFs. The data arrives as emails, notes and document photos, the forms change from client to client, and you fill tens or a few hundred a month. FillWise. It works on the page you already have open and costs a fraction per form.

You are building it into your own software. Both have an API and an MCP server. FillWise's is on every plan, the free one included; Instafill's starts with Self-service Unlimited at $299 a month.

What to check by hand

An AI fill is a first draft, whichever tool makes it:

Privacy

On a web form, the text you paste and the files you attach go to our server and to the AI provider, Anthropic, for that one fill, and are not stored. A fillable PDF never leaves your browser: only its list of fields and your data are sent. For a flat PDF, page images are sent to read the layout and are not kept either. Everything we do keep, and a data processing agreement on request, is on the privacy and data security page.

FAQ

Can I move my Instafill profiles to FillWise? There is no import. Paste the profile's data into the panel, or save it once as a reusable template and switch it on when you need it.

Can FillWise fill a hundred PDFs from a spreadsheet? No. It fills one form per click. You can paste a row at a time as text, as the spreadsheet guide shows, but there is no bulk fill from a file.

Does FillWise fill Word documents? No. Web forms and PDFs only.

Is there a free plan with downloads? Yes. 20 fills to start, then 5 a week, every result downloadable, no card required.

Is my client data used to train AI models? No. The AI provider is Anthropic, whose commercial API terms exclude customer data from training, and the text you paste is not stored on our side.

Run it on the last form you filled by hand, PDF or web page: install FillWise, paste your notes into the side panel and press Fill form. For PDFs in depth, see the PDF automation guide.
