Magical Alternative for Form Filling in 2026

If you installed Magical to move client data into web forms, the product you signed up for is not the one being sold today. As of September 2026 the Magical website presents the company as "AI agents for healthcare operations", the pricing page redirects to that same page, and the only way in is "Book a demo". The Chrome extension still exists in the Web Store under the name "Magical: Text Expander & Autofill" with about 300,000 users, but it is no longer what the company is building.

This article is for people who used Magical for data entry and want a replacement. It is written by the team behind FillWise, a Chrome extension that fills forms with AI, so read the comparison with that in mind. We have kept every claim about Magical to what its own store listing and website say on the date above.

What Magical did well

Two things, and both are real:

Text expansion. Type a short trigger and a full message appears, with the contact's name and details pulled into it. For support and recruiting teams working in Gmail, Zendesk or LinkedIn, this was the main reason to install it.
Moving data between tabs. Open a record in one tab, open a form in another, and Magical transfers the fields you mapped. The listing calls this "autofill contacts, leads, patient details, or job candidates into any database, form, or spreadsheet".

Both rely on data that already sits in a structured place: a CRM record, a spreadsheet row, a saved snippet. That is the design choice that decides whether Magical fits your work.

Where it stops

The store listing describes text expansion and tab-to-tab transfer. It says nothing about reading a document, and nothing about PDF forms. In practice that means:

No documents as a source. A passport photo, a scanned ID, a PDF the client emailed you: none of these are inputs. Someone still types the values into a structured place first.
No PDF forms as a target. Visa applications, insurance forms, government packets that arrive as PDF are outside the tool.
Mapping per form. Transfer works when the source fields are matched to the destination fields. A new portal with different field names is a new setup.
Pricing is not public. If you need to know what a seat costs before you commit, you cannot find out without a sales call.

If your day is support tickets and outreach messages, none of this may matter and Magical's extension may still serve you. If your day is client data going into other people's forms, it does.

What to look for in a replacement

Judge any alternative on four questions:

What can it read? Plain text is the minimum. The useful step up is documents: a photo of a passport, a scan, a PDF with the client's details. That removes the "type it into a structured place first" step entirely.
What can it fill? Web forms on any site, without a per-site setup, and PDF forms, both the fillable kind and the flat kind that has no real fields.
What happens the second time? A form you fill every week should not cost the same effort, or the same money, as the first time.
What does it cost, in public? A price list you can read and a free tier you can test on your own forms before paying.

How FillWise compares

FillWise is a Chrome extension with a side panel. You open a form, paste whatever you have (an email from the client, a CRM export, a JSON blob, notes in any language) or attach a photo, scan or PDF, and click Fill web form. The AI reads the source, matches it to the fields on the page in whatever language the form is in, and types the values in. You check and submit.

Photo and PDF attachments are always read by the AI and always spend a fill, because every new passport is a new document.
Public pricing. Free is 20 fills to start and 5 a week after, no card. Paid plans start at $15 for 100 fills a month, with 500 and 3000-fill plans above that. The full list is on the pricing section.

What FillWise does not do, so you can rule it out quickly: it is not a text expander, it has no snippet library for messages, and it does not sync with a CRM. It fills forms from what you give it.

Switching in practice

There is nothing to migrate. Magical's snippets stay in Magical. For FillWise you need the data itself, which you already have in emails, documents and spreadsheets.

Install FillWise from the Chrome Web Store and sign in with Google.
Open the form you fill most often.
Paste the client's data as it is, or attach the document, and click Fill web form.
Save the block as a template if the same client comes back, so next time it is one click.

The free plan is enough to run this on your three or four hardest forms before deciding.

What to check by hand

Any AI filler, FillWise included, is a fast first draft, not a final authority:

Names against the passport, letter by letter.
Dates where the form's format is ambiguous (day-month or month-day).
Dropdowns where two options look alike, such as country versus nationality.
Anything the form asks that your source does not answer. FillWise leaves those empty rather than guessing; look for the gaps.

Privacy

Web forms: the field labels and your source data go to the FillWise server, are processed by the AI provider for that one fill and are not stored. Fillable PDFs are parsed in your browser; only the list of fields and your data leave it. Flat PDFs send page images so the layout can be read. FAQ

Is Magical's extension being shut down? We do not know, and the listing does not say. It is still installable as of the date on this article. The company's website no longer mentions the extension on its home page.

Can FillWise expand text snippets like Magical? No. It fills forms from data and documents. For canned messages you still want a text expander.

Does FillWise connect to my CRM? Not directly. Copy the record as text, or take a screenshot of it, and paste or attach that. Rows copied from a spreadsheet work the same way; the spreadsheet file itself is not an accepted attachment.

Does it work on the same sites as Magical? FillWise works on any website with form fields, including the ATS and CRM pages Magical lists. Some applications built as custom widgets rather than standard fields fill less completely; if a site misbehaves, the fastest fix is to tell us which one.

Can I try it on my forms before paying? Yes. The free plan is 20 fills to start and 5 a week after that, with no card.
