Common Questions

How many Forms 8283 do I need for items reported in Section B?

One form for each donated item, unless the item is part of a group of similar items. Items in Section B also need a qualified appraisal, which in certain cases must be attached.

Does the charity's signature in Part V mean it agrees with my valuation?

No. In Part V the organization acknowledges that it received the property, but the form states that this acknowledgment does not represent agreement with the claimed fair market value.

How do I list a donated vehicle in Section A?

Check the vehicle box in column (b) and enter the vehicle identification number, unless Form 1098-C is attached. In column (c), give the vehicle's year, make, model and mileage.
